PATENT PENDING

CATCH MISALIGNMENT BEFORE AI ACTS.

Vera checks whether the machine understands the human before consequential action begins.

Provisional patent application filed September 5, 2026.

Patent pending means an application was filed. It does not mean a patent has been examined or granted.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office acknowledged receipt on September 5, 2026 of a provisional application titled Risk-Adaptive System and Method for Continuous Verification of Human-Machine Alignment Prior to Consequential Action.

THE CORE IDEA

THE MACHINE SHOULD KNOW BEFORE ACTING.

Does it understand what the human actually wants?

THE PROBLEM

AI ACTS BEFORE ALIGNMENT IS PROVEN.

A capable machine can execute the wrong objective faster than a human can correct it.

THE DIFFERENCE

OTHER AI GUESSES. VERA CHECKS.

When the objective is uncertain, Vera asks instead of silently choosing.

FIG. 1 — Alignment handshake

FIG. 2 — Alignment state object

FIG. 3 — Risk-to-assurance ladder
A0 — Reversible trialA1 — Routine approvalA2 — Sensitive permission changeA3 — High value or affects othersA4 — Industrial, clinical or serious harmA5 — Catastrophic and substantially irreversibleHigher consequence requires stronger proof of identity, authority and context. Assurance does not decide whether the human judgment is correct.

FIG. 5 — Alignment tether and safe state

FIG. 10 — Alignment token lifecycle

A receiving system verifies the token and refuses it when a carried constraint cannot be enforced.

MAKE ALIGNMENT VISIBLE

SEE ALIGNMENT BEFORE YOU ACT.

Humans can see whether the machine, project, and current goal still agree.

WHEN VERA DOESN'T KNOW

IF SHE ISN'T SURE, SHE ASKS.

Uncertainty becomes a question, not an assumption.

BEFORE ACTION

ALIGN FIRST. THEN ACT.

Human intent is established before machine execution continues.

NOT ONCE. CONTINUOUSLY.

DRIFT GETS CAUGHT AS IT HAPPENS.

If the goal, context, constraints, or human judgment changes, alignment is checked again.

WHO DECIDES

THE HUMAN KEEPS THE FINAL SAY.

The machine can question, warn, recommend, and explain. It does not silently redefine the goal.

WHAT THE MACHINE DOES

HELP MORE. ASSUME LESS.

Machines use their intelligence after the objective is clear.

WHEN IT MATTERS

NO GUESSING BEFORE IMPORTANT ACTIONS.

The greater the consequence, the stronger the need to verify alignment first.

THE INTERFACE

VERA IS THE INTERFACE.
ALIGNMENT IS THE TECHNOLOGY.

Conversation is how humans experience it. Continuous verification is what the system does.

HOW IT WORKS

GOAL. ACTION. OUTCOME. CHECK AGAIN.

The human defines the objective.

The machine acts.

Reality produces an outcome.

The system checks whether the objective was actually served.

WHY NOW

BETTER AI MAKES ALIGNMENT MORE IMPORTANT.

The faster machines can act, the more expensive a misunderstood objective becomes.

THE INVENTION

ALIGNMENT BECOMES A CONTINUOUS PROCESS.

Not a prompt written once. Not an assumption made once. A relationship checked before consequential action.

WHAT EXISTS NOW

The live product is a software-first beginning.

Vera currently provides a web interface for declaring goals, asking clarifying questions, separating alignment signals, recording decisions and preserving context. Vera for Organizations is being built as the shared workspace and authority layer.

Hardware tethers, biometrics, clinical systems, industrial controls, financial execution, robotics and cross-system enforcement are future research or patent-pending territory. They are not presented as live Vera V1 capabilities.

MAKE SURE THE MACHINE UNDERSTANDS.

Then let it work.
